A Dark Knight in the Windy City

Take a tour through Chicago and discover some filming locations of the Dark Knight!

I recently had the opportunity to travel to Chicago, IL for a beautiful wedding and realized that the city looked familiar. It looked like....Gotham. Well, this wasn't a mere coincidence, because after a quick Google search I found out that The Dark Knight was partially filmed in Chicago!

Of course, being a huge fan of the Dark Knight Trilogy, I decided to try and photograph as many filming locations as I could find on my walk around the city. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I missed quite a few but I am planning on finishing my self-guided tour as soon as I get another chance. For now, here are some of the locations I was able to find and photograph.

Trump Tower and Willis Tower were two of the locations used during the filming of The Dark Knight.

Trump Tower (on the left) was the exterior scene of the final face-off between Batman and the Joker. The interior scene was actually filmed in England. Trump Tower was used again as the Wayne Enterprises Boardroom in The Dark Knight Rises.

Willis Tower (on the right) was the tower that Batman stood on and looked down over Gotham.

These photos were taken from the observation deck of Hancock Tower, aka the Chicago 360! This was an amazing experience, to be able to see the city from so high up! The Tilt is also located in this building and is something I would like to try out next time I am in the city.

Our next filming location is:

Navy Pier, which was the location used for the iconic Joker's ferry experiment scene near the end of the movie. Of course, looking at it from 94 floors up and during the daytime, the scene looks quite a bit different.

The final location that I was able to visit and get a photo of (at least the exterior) was The Berghoff Restaurant located at 17 West Adams Street. The arrest of Maroni was filmed inside the restaurant.

Unfortunately, I did not actually get a chance to go inside of the restaurant, but I'm adding it to my list of places to explore.

There are quite a few filming locations left to visit, including:

The Old Chicago Post Office: Filming location of the bank robbery scene

Parking Garage @ 200 West Randolph Street: This is where Scarecrow was arrested

Richard J Daley Center: Wayne Enterprises HQ

IBM Building: The Wayne Enterprises Boardroom

...and so many more!!

Have you visited any of these locations? Do you know of any other locations? What are your favorites?
